Task 1
Subordination Sentence:
” The idea of the Liberal Arts has become a very controversial topic throughout the system of education and some argue that it is warned to have a great decline in the school system while others believe that it is still so important throughout the curriculum of many educations. “
These example sentences are complex because I showed that certain parts of each sentence are more important than the other.
Coordination Sentences:
“The views of the liberal arts that our society currently has outside of mine is pretty negative. Most people believe or are convinced to believe that we should follow the STEM route without realizing that these two can work in perfect harmony and there is space for them to do that.”
These sentences can be considered compound because each part of the sentences are balanced equally.
Task 2
Original:
Liberal Arts. By the book it is defined as an “academic course of instruction at a college intended to provide general knowledge and comprising the arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, as opposed to professional or technical subjects.” (controversy) It is a program that is warned to have a great decline in the school system but is still so important throughout the curriculum of many educations. (Include claim) Jeffrey Scheuer and Sanford Ungar, two authors from these articles each offered their views on the liberal arts and where this education stands for today’s students.
Revised:
Liberal Arts. Although there is a variety of definitions to explain this area of education, in very general terms it can be defined as an “academic course of instruction at a college intended to provide general knowledge and comprising the arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, as opposed to professional or technical subjects.” The idea of the Liberal Arts has become a very controversial topic throughout the system of education and some argue that it is warned to have a great decline in the school system while others believe that it is still so important throughout the curriculum of many educations. Jeffrey Scheuer (author of “Critical Thinking and the Liberal Arts”) and Sanford Ungar (“7 Major Misperceptions About the Liberal Arts”)both wrote articles to spark their own debate about the liberal arts and where this education stands for today’s students. Personally, prior to reading these articles and after I believe that the liberal arts is a key component of today’s education and it should still be present throughout the curriculum.
Task 3
My revision makes my introduction stronger because it clearly states my main point, perspective, and thesis and the conversation that is going to be held throughout the essay. In my original draft it was pretty vague and didn’t clearly state what I was talking about/my view on the topic.
